First Landing State park is so beautiful and I love photographing portraits there!!
Lenae is so beautiful and glowing! We had so much fun at First Landing State Park for Marcus and Lenae’s maternity portraits.
I was so excited to photograph Malorie and Xavior. I have known Malorie for years and was SO EXCITED to find out she was pregnant. But she had recently moved across the country so I didn’t think I’d be able to photograph her maternity portraits. But… on a trip home for her baby shower we were able to fit in her session.
She was GLOWING for her session at First Landing State Park. It was HOT but the love between them and the gorgeous Virginia Beach weather helped me to create these amazing portraits. It was almost impossible to narrow down to our favorites from heir session!
I cannot wait to meet her little one in November when she comes back to visit. Stay tuned for more portraits then!
Portraits are supposed to be fun! Posing and staging is only half of it! Personally, Candids are my favorite! One of my favorite things about Devon is her ability to make any session fun. It doesn’t matter if it’s a tantrum, nervous mom getting her first boudoir shoot since kiddos, a Dad that “really hates getting his picture taken” or that senior that is only doing portraits to appease Mom and Dad… It’s a fun experience here at DSP!
Here are some of our favorite candids that we absolutely love!
“I love my baby brother!!!!… Sooooooooo much!”
“Don’t mind me… just struttin’ my stuff with the newest fad… Wear necklaces around our teeth!”
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE BEAUTIFUL MATTHEWS SISTERS!!!
“Nothing like a cold ocean touching your toes to make you run like the wind!”
Keep checking back for more candids on the blog!
How many years has it been since YOU took your last family portraits? If you answer is more than 3 years, it’s TIME!!! Don’t let the years slip away with out taking time to “freeze time” with a beautiful family portrait you can cherish for generations.
I LOVED getting the Bullock family in front of my camera. Three STUNNING women with big hearts and beautiful smiles. (Yes, this is a mother daughters portrait- not sisters!) We wanted to have a little fun so we brought some smoke bombs to the beach and created a little magic. They even brought their dog who LOVED all the adventure of being at the beach~!
It had been a RAINY week so we were so grateful God let the sun shine and kept us dry. Jess and girls, Thank you so much for allowing me to capture your family.
I have been honored to photograph so many Class of 2020 high school seniors this year. Sadly their senior year came to an abrupt halt in March with COVID-19. Schools were canceled as well as so many special moments; proms, class trips, senior activities, graduation parties and more. It’s unfair and sad. These are moments they won’t get back.
I think it’s so important to still show the class of 2020 some love right now. Learning that life isn’t always fair is HARD. And being stripped of so much WHILE having to stay home, leave your jobs, stop your athletics and programs and have no in person interaction with your friends really hurts. So, here’s how I’m going to try to help!
I am going to be doing a feature on each of my 2020 Seniors. Introduce them a bit and show off their beautiful Senior Portraits. Then I’ll include their $cashtag through Cashapp so you can send them a little gift. (What 17 or 18 year old doesn’t love some money at graduation???) Could you spare $5-20 to say you are standing with them? Include the note “Congrats graduate of 2020!” so they know it came from this post and what it’s for. Let’s flood them with some hope and a tiny bit of joy in these unfair moments!
Our Senior this week we are highlighting is Carson from Cox High School. He’s a bit of a shy young man, but he was so much fun to work with and went along with all my crazy ideas! He even climbed a tree for me! The beach is a family favorite so we had to make sure some pier portraits were included!
Carson is heading to ODU in the fall which I know makes his momma happy! I’m excited to see how well he does as a new freshman. Help me celebrate his accomplishments. Hi Cashapp is $CarsonJohnson13 if you’d like to send him some love and congratulations.
Cheyla approached me about a unique portrait session idea and I was so excited to dive into her ideas with her. This vision took us on a journey into her faith in God and her beliefs. Giana and Naomi joined in and were each crowned as well. The studio portraits and the family portraits at 64th street showed love both in faith and in family, even a blended family. It was a beautiful representation that love isn’t defined as blood alone and that our faith gives us strength and builds us up. I am so grateful that Cheyla and Eddie trusted me with their idea and their family. This was a session I will never forget! I hope it inspires others to think of unique sessions where photography can assist in capturing an important moment in their life!
I hope you enjoy these incredible portraits as much as I did. It was difficult to pick my favorite ones to share!
Woman are the backbone of this country! We are homemakers, doctors, lawyers, soldiers, business owners, role models, caregivers, and so much more. We juggle roles without even realize we are doing it. We can kiss a boo boo and put on our high heels in the same breathe. We bring forth life into world as mothers while also running empires. We are statistically more kind, loving, grateful and better at handling stress. We are super-powerful women!
This week we celebrate International Women’s Day. A day to celebrate women all over the world and how far we have come as women. I personally want to celebrate woman empowering women! I see a trend of women uniting together and empowering each other. We need to do more of this. When I first started out in business I had three AMAZING women who mentored me. Women who guided me, gave me advice and encouraged me. (Thank you Andi, Dee and Dana.) Their guidance gave me the ability to believe in myself and push forward on a dream I knew very little (at the time) on how to accomplish. Now, I mentor women doing the same thing. They aren’t my competition, it’s my way to give back and cheer on another superwoman!
We need to empower each other. Cheer each other on, give each other feedback! We need to stop judging each other and our life’s choices. I am successful business owner who chose to stay home and raise her babies for over 10 years. Your choices aren’t going to be my choices. Whatever you are doing with your life, you are a an empowered woman. Do you stay home and raise your little ones? Are you a single mom doing everything by yourself? Are you a military member who has to say goodbye to your babies for months at a time? Are you a military wife caught between being a single parent and a married one- juggling the two at a moments notice? Are you a career woman pushing to achieve your dreams and “soccer moming” it as well? Wherever you are you are a superwoman! You need to celebrate that.
I want to help you celebrate. Come see me in the month of March. Let’s celebrate your womanhood! Let’s celebrate your superpowers.
– For some that might mean professional headshots celebrating your success in your field.
– For some that might mean a boudoir session showcasing your sensuality, beauty and uniqueness.
– For some that might be a “Model for a day” session where you get to just celebrate YOU with different outfits and ideas.
– For some that might be a Cultural Heritage shoot as we celebrate all of your unique cultures that make up who you are.
